In previous posts I have written about changes in guidelines from the Federal Trade Commission in the USA which will affect Internet marketing practices effective December 01, 2009. I also mentioned similar legislation for Internet marketers in the EU (European Union).

Of course, I am not a lawyer and what I write or say only reflects my opinion. And as much I like to discuss legal matters on a theoretical basis with business friends late at night sometimes, I really do not like the day to day implications of laws at all. That does not mean that I can ignore them.

Did you ever hear the term “Reversed Squeeze Page”? Not too long ago, I was asked, whether a squeeze page or a reverse squeeze page performs better for generating opt-ins for a promotional type of email newsletter.

Of course my answer was,

“It depends!”

But let me start slowly here, tell you a bit about the history of squeeze pages and why using them at all is a good idea.


Squeeze Page History

The traditional squeeze page is said to be invented by Eben Pagan, who has become a perfect role model for the typical Internet marketing success story. Eben's original idea was to tease Web visitors with valuable information, but not giving it to them directly. Eben was the first one who asked for an email address in exchange (or the first one, who became famous for it).


Purpose Of A Squeeze Page

In 1994 about 14 years ago I started to use the Internet at the University campus. Very quickly Email became one of the most important tools for me and it is still today. However, with the upcoming of spammers and anti-spam measures Email has lost some of it's reliability.

I mean, are you sure you receive all important email messages, or are you sure all your messages you send are received?

I'll show you in a minute what I do to make sure Email works reliably for me, even for most important communication needs. Before that, let me tell you, how it all began for me (scroll down, if you are in a hurry).


How It All Began

Do you remember those times, when the “World Wide Web” and it's HTTP protocol were fairly new. I remember using the following services and protocols to find and research information on the Net. (This was not exactly fun and easy like it is today.)

• Email
